Early Care and Education, Early Childhood Development and Education, B.S.
We offer a rigorous academic program, combining knowledge of child development with early childhood education and early childhood special education.
The Early Care and Education Concentration prepares students to work with young children with and without disabilities in a variety of diverse contexts, including community child care centers, private kindergartens, hospitals, and parent-child centers.
The Student Experience
- Experienced and committed faculty teach, advise, and mentor students in this innovative interdisciplinary program which includes the departments of Human Development and Family Studies and Specialized Education Services
- Classroom-based experiences in inclusive early childhood settings/classrooms provide students hands-on applied experiences with a mentor teacher
- Students can gain research experience by working with faculty on a variety of projects related to current issues and topics related to young children’s development and education and their families

Work directly with children as
· Teachers in community early education programs working with infants, toddlers, or preschool age children including Head Start
· Teachers in specialized educational programs providing instruction and supports that are designed to meet the unique needs and abilities of children
· Assistant teachers in all of these settings
Work with and for families in
· Smart Start & N.C. Partnership for Children
or as
· parents as teachers, family liaisons, parent referral counselors, and family and community resource professionals
Work to support early education professionals as
· Directors or coordinators in early education program
· Training Coordinators
· Resource Center Specialists
· Quality Enhancement Specialists – providing coaching to early childhood teachers.
· School-Age Specialists – Professional development specialists or trainers that help teachers and administrators develop, plan, and achieve continuous learning goals.
· Behavior Specialists – specializes in understanding and treating behavioral issues in children.
· Infant/Toddler Specialists – develop, coordinate, and support high quality programs to support early development and learning.

Online Degree Completion Students
2Plus Program
The 2Plus program in Early Childhood Development and Education is designed for students with an earned Associate in Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education from a participating North Carolina Community College. The mission of the 2Plus program is to support community college graduates transfer to UNC Greensboro with advanced class standing and pursue a specific major at UNCG. Programs of study in the ECDE major are interdisciplinary, requiring a synthesis of knowledge from the social and behavioral sciences, early childhood education, and early childhood special education.
Admission into this program occurs in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
